Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week.  This provides flexibility the remaining 40 of the work week.  This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues.  Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

As a Senior Accountant, you will play an important role Tour Operator accounting function. This position is key to ensuring seamless financial reporting, audit coordination, and functional excellence across the Sunwing Vacations financial reporting portfolio .

You’ll be the primary liaison with auditors for the Sunwing accounting group and a champion for best practices in accounting processes, helping drive continuous improvement and compliance with WestJet Group standards.

Responsibilities

• Act as the main point of contact between Sunwing’s accounting team and WestJet Group’s consolidation team, ensuring timely communication and alignment on financial close activities.
• Lead the end-to-end intercompany process for Sunwing, including transaction recording, settlement coordination, and reconciliation preparation.
•  Review topside journal entries in JD Edwards (JDE), ensuring accuracy and compliance with corporate consolidation requirements.
• Review and coach Junior team members
• Identify opportunities for process and control improvement, promoting best practices and evolving month-end deliverables alongside technology and operational changes - including  journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, actuals analysis and month-end close procedures.
• Coordinate all audit-related activities, including overseeing prepared by client deliverables , inquiry responses, and issue resolution to support a timely and smooth audit process.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of accounting experience, with progressive levels of responsibility including full cycle accounting
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Proficiency in JD Edwards (JDE) or similar ERP systems.
• Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
• Prior experience in a public accounting firm is strongly preferred
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight timelines in a fast paced and evolving environment
