Job Description:

The Electrician will support the Project Manager in the execution of the installation, relocation, modification, repair, replacement, testing, and maintenance of all standard voltage electrical systems typically found in a research laboratory environment while adhering to the NEC, UBC, and other applicable codes and sound electrical engineering standards.


Responsibilities

  • Analyzing drawings for the purpose of identifying location of current electrical systems to determine future installations of additional systems, components and/or modifications.
  • Inspecting and testing electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment.
  • Isolating defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments.
  • Examining and testing elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes.
  • Replacing faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems fixtures and appliances.
  • Renewing circuits either by isolating and cutting out defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring or by splicing ends of broken wires.
  • As required, estimating materials needed and record time and materials expended on each work order.
  • Conducting routine building inspections to assess needs relating to electrical work and maintenance.
  • Performing daily mechanical inspection rounds in assigned buildings and log critical information.
  • Analyzing work orders and proposed projects for the purpose of determining the feasibility and estimating costs.
  • Coordinating with the Electrical Shop Supervisor, outside contractors and/or employees, estimators, and other trades to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and/or replacing component parts (e.g., wiring, conduit, controls, devices, circuit breakers, ballasts, etc.) of various electrical systems, electrical equipment and electrical tools.
  • Scheduling and responding to power outages, as required.
  • Installing and/or modifying electrical systems (e.g., building infrastructure, exterior, motor/control, clock, security, fire alarm, energy management, etc.) for the purpose of providing updated, enhanced and/or upgraded electrical capabilities.
  • Preparing written documentation to record and/or convey information.
  • Reporting daily to the Electrical Shop Supervisor on specific projects or problems.
  • Use NextGen ticketing system for work orders.
  • Performing all other work-related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Licensed as a journeyman electrician or military equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an electrician working with electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver license.
  • Must be able to pass a favorable national agency check (NAC).
  • Must have CDL and be able to operate a bucket truck.
